Occupy LA has over 400 people in a tent city on the steps of LA City Hall. Like the protest towns that sprung up after the Great Depression and the Civil War, they are there to press the case that the people are being ripped off - by the banks that now take back the homes they gave mortgages for, by Wall Street who rakes in billions while unemployment stays hight, by the corporations which have record profits while they hoard cash and only create jobs overseas while paying no or very little US taxes.
Despite billions of dollars in federal, state and local funds directed toward the maintenance of existing bridges, 69,223 bridges — 11.5 percent of total highway bridges in the U.S. — are classified as "structurally deficient," requiring significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement. The full national reportincludes the full battery of data, including the worst 100 counties and the busiest 2 structurally deficient bridges in each state.
By 2015, more than 15.5 million Americans 65 and older will live in communities where public transportation service is poor or non-existent. That number is expected to continue to grow rapidly as the baby boom generation “ages in place” in suburbs and exurbs with few mobility options for those who do not drive. The report, Aging in Place, Stuck without Options, ranks metro areas by the percentage of seniors with poor access to public transportation, now and in the coming years, and presents other data on aging and transportation.
Rep. john Campbell (R, CA 48) has become a sponsor of the "birther" bill introduced by Rep. Bill Posey (R, FL 15). http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:HR01503:@@@P The bill would require a Presidential candidate to include a copy of their birth certificate with the principal campaign committee state of organization. Other sponsors on the bill include John Carter (R, TX 31), John Abney Culberson (R TX 7), Bob Goodlatte (R, VA 6), Randy Neugebauer (R, TX 19).
Rep. Campbell's actions are troubling on several levels. Campbell agrees with Wiley Drake, the pastor from Buena Park who preaches that Obama is an illegal alien. Campbell now agrees with people like the white supremacist who killed a guard at the Holocaust Museum. Campbell is showing growing intolerance in an increasingly diverse world.
And, is this what Rep. John Campbell should be spending his time on? Why isn't he working to bring money and jobs his district? Why isn't he trying to lower the costs of health care so the unemployed and uninsured people in his district can get medical care without having to go the emergency room? Why isn't he working to get money to help schools and colleges so classes don't have to be cut?
Why won't John Campbell do something that would benefit the people of his district?
