The Fair Board is scheduled to meet on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 10 AM at the Administration Building near the Arlington Gate. As of Friday, only two members of the Fair Board had confirmed they would be attending the meeting. The Board has dodged out of two prior meetings in February to discuss asking the Governor to cancel the sale.
In the agenda packet, there is a list of contracts for approval by the board. Amongst the contracts for magicians and clowns is one for $200,000 for Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. The Fair Board has been without counsel since December 2009 when Atty. General Jerry Brown dropped the Board as a client due to conflicts of interest arising from Board members acting as both the Fair Board and the Fair Board Foundation seeking to buy the property. The Board had acknowledged that Manatt, Phelps, & Philips, LLP was on the short list for law firms being interviewed.
The Board is also discussing ways to expand the entertainment, recreational and educational programs offered at the Fairgrounds. The items for discussing include:
- "20 Stories Over OC" - A 20 story tower would take people up to view the Orange County skyline and landscape. This would be an educational exhibit.
- Pacific Amphitheatre - The season could be expanded. A public-private partnership could be created for both program and facility development.
