    Occupy LA has over 400 people in a tent city on the steps of LA City Hall. Like the protest towns that sprung up after the Great Depression and the Civil War, they are there to press the case that the people are being ripped off - by the banks that now take back the homes they gave mortgages for, by Wall Street who rakes in billions while unemployment stays hight, by the corporations which have record profits while they hoard cash and only create jobs overseas while paying no or very little US taxes.

    Despite billions of dollars in federal, state and local funds directed toward the maintenance of existing bridges, 69,223 bridges — 11.5 percent of total highway bridges in the U.S. — are classified as "structurally deficient," requiring significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement.The full national reportincludes the full battery of data, including the worst 100 counties and the busiest 2 structurally deficient bridges in each state.

Stuck Without Options

  • Aging In Place
    By 2015, more than 15.5 million Americans 65 and older will live in communities where public transportation service is poor or non-existent. That number is expected to continue to grow rapidly as the baby boom generation “ages in place” in suburbs and exurbs with few mobility options for those who do not drive. The report, Aging in Place, Stuck without Options, ranks metro areas by the percentage of seniors with poor access to public transportation, now and in the coming years, and presents other data on aging and transportation.
