San Juan Capistrano Tightens Water Conservation to Hold Back Rationing

San Juan Capistrano's City Council held off adopting mandatory water rationing and opted for a "Stage 1" voluntary water conservation starting June 1.  Beginning July 1, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California will reduce water deliveries by 10%.  

The conservation guidelines include:

• Customer allotments of water will be cut by 5% across the board

No watering of lawns or landscaping between 9 AM and 6 PM 

Encouraged, but not required, to wash cars at commercial carwashes instead of using a hose in the driveway

Cannot hose down driveway

Pools cannot be emptied or refilled with the exception of replacement for evaporation or repairs for health and safety issues

New toilets available - Bring in your pre-1993 toilet and receive a $200 rebate for a newer water efficient toilet.  Rebate can be used to offset the cost of both the fixture and the installation and will appear as a credit on your water bill.  City staff will conduct inspections to determine if you qualify for the rebate.  The number of rebates is limited!
