As part of the county cutbacks, Supervisor Pat Bates asked the County Executive to provide an update on how the cutbacks are progressing at each Board of Supervisors meeting. A summary of the report is found in Bill Campbell's newsletter for July 24, 2009.
The Probation Department reports the reduction of 93 positions as of July 3, 2009 is impacting all services department wide. Los Pinos Camp, a youth facility, with 64 beds, is being closed.
In the District Attorney's officee, some cases may take a little longer because eight employees were laid off. Management is meeting with labor organizations to plan the department wide furlough plan to coincide with state mandated Court closure dates.
On July 23, the Women's Jail was closed.
This is the beginning of the cuts for this year. Many of the cuts, furloughs and closures are still being planned and negotiated.
Remember that all of these cuts are in addition to what has already been lost.
In the Social Services Agencyy, 3797 employees were furloughed for 80 hours each from February to June 2009. 98 employees on probation were not hired permanently. 74 employees were laid off.
The Health Care Agency reduced tuberculosis services and community nursing services. California Children's Services administrative staff were reduced by 20%. 77 positions were shifted to the Prop 63, Mental Health Services Act, program.
Probation has already lost 58 employees and closed the Youth and Family Resources Center (West.)
Information Technology is deferring upgrades and maintenance of computer systems. 47 contract employees were eliminated or transferred. Eight employees were laid off and 3 limited term employees did not have their contracts extended.
The District Attorney's office reduced Welfare Fraud Detection, laid off 10 employees and moved 8 to a lower non-sworn classification (pay cut.)
