California could receive $13.2 million for transportation and housing as part of the Senate Appropriations Committee Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill. Senator Barbara Boxer has been hard at working getting money to improve California's infrastructure and to create much needed jobs. The bill has gone to the full Senate for consideration.
"We know that investing in transportation and infrastructure creates jobs. This funding will not only put Californians to work, it will also improve transit, ease congestion, and increase transportation safety. I am so glad the committee recognized the need for these important initiatives," said Sen. Boxer.
The projects include:
$500,000 for Metrolink Positive Train Control (PTC) train collision avoidance technology
$2 million for Alameda Corridor East Grade Separations in Riverside County which will make road safer because train tracks won't cross streets.
$2 million for Palm Springs International Airport Terminal Air Traffic Control Facilities Replacement to replace an outdated tower that does not meet current FAA codes.
$2 million for Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit Construction
$1 million for Imperial Downtown Transit Park in Imperial. New bus shelters, bike racks and information kiosks will be added to help in the city's downtown redevelopment plan.
$300,000 for Desert Hot Springs Civic Center Complex Improvements. The Civic Center houses both Desert Hot Springs City Administration and the local Boys and Girls Club.
$1 million for Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART). Funding will be used to continue preliminary engineering and environmental assessments for SMART. SMART will provide passenger rail service along the 70 mile corridor form Cloverdale in Sonoma County to Larkspur in Marin County.
$850,00 for Oakland's Lake Merritt Project. A new four acre shoreline park will be created by redirecting the existing 12th Street and converting it to a six-lane boulevard, adding bike lanes, widening paths and integrating storm water treatment elements.
$800,000 for the City of Dinuba CNG Fueling Station Expansion. Expanding the fueling station will meet the growing demand for alternative, low emission fuel in Tulare County.
$2.75 million for San Francisco County Transportation Authority South Access to the Golden Gate Bridge on Doyle Drive - The upgraded access will include six lanes plus an eastbound auxiliary lane between the Park Presidio Interchange and a new Presidio access at Girard Road.
