The City of Anaheim’s annual Spooktacular Halloween Parade and Fall Family Festival is always popular among the young and young-at-heart. This year the City is taking the Parade a step up … or shall we say a step down into the deep blue sea. SpongeBob SquarePants, the very popular Nickelodeon character who lives under the sea in a pineapple house, will serve as the Grand Marshal of this year’s Parade, courtesy of Time Warner Cable. The Parade is presented by The Disneyland Resort, KOCE-TV and Time Warner Cable (for more information on SpongeBob SquarePants, please see below).
Anaheim City Council members and local elected officials will join SpongeBob in the 6-8 p.m. parade procession. The Parade will begin on the corner of Broadway and West Street, travel east on Broadway, then north on Anaheim Blvd, and finish at Lincoln Ave. Structure and on-street parking will be available throughout Downtown Anaheim.
The Spooktacular Halloween Parade, which dates back to 1924 when baseball legends Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson served as its first grand marshals, will feature colorful floats, marching bands and drill teams, equestrian units, vintage cars, and special guests and honorees.
In addition, children are invited to attend the parade in costume, and families can volunteer to join in the parade by arriving no later than 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and reporting to the Downtown Community Center. Those wishing to participate will be provided with a costume.
The Parade will be played on Anaheim Community Television (ACTV) Channel 3 in Anaheim, and on KOCE-TV’s OC channel starting Nov. 1. Please check the local listing in your area for specific air times.
The Fall Festival, organized by the Anaheim Fall Festival Committee, will feature activities planned from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., including game and food booths, live entertainment, a costume contest, free children’s admission to the MUZEO when accompanied by a paid adult, and a haunted house.
The 2009 Spooktacular Halloween Parade is presented by the Disneyland Resort, KOCE-TV and Time Warner Cable. Additional sponsors supporting this community event are Anaheim Public Utilities, Northgate Markets, and Tapatio Hot Sauce.
