The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $35.2 million to provide rebates for California consumers who purchase energy-efficient home appliances in 2010.
The new program will be administered by the California Energy Commission, which is scheduled to announce its final program guidelines later this month and begin issuing rebates in early spring 2010. Proposed rebates will be $100 for clothes washers, $75 for refrigerators, and $50 for room air conditioners. To qualify, the appliances must be on the ENERGY STAR list of energy-efficient appliances and meet all state efficiency standards. These new rebates are in addition to existing rebates offered by California’s utilities and appliance manufacturers.
