The Fair Board will have a special meeting on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, to discuss a resolution asking the Governor to stop the sale. The resolution was brought up at the January 21 meeting. David Padilla supported the resolution but was pushed back by Kristina Dodge and Dave Ellis. Dodge wanted to send the resolution to a committee to meet with Costa Mesa City Councilmember Katrina Foley, who proposed the resolution. The committee would then report back to the Fair Board, who would then decide if the Board wanted to consider the item at a later meeting. Dodge's strategy would have effectively prevented the Fair Board from considering the resolution before the winning final bidder was announced.
Kristina Dodge is current Chair of the Fair Board. Dodge has also been reported to be the Chair of the Orange County Fair Foundation, which was formed by six members of the Fair Board to buy the Fairgrounds. Kristina Dodge is married to Larry Dodge, CEO of American Sterling Co. and a multi-million donor to the Republican Party who has not been shy about using his money to push for the results he wants.
