Assembly Speaker Karen Bass will be the master of ceremonies at the annual Roe Dinner. Sheryl WuDunn won a Pulitzer Prize along with her husband, Nicholas D. Kristof for their coverage of the Tiananmen Square democracy movement in Beijing which ended in a military crackdown. Together, they have written Half the Sky: From Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, which tells of the feudal attitudes towards women in the developing world. The book also discusses how a growing crop of mostly local women who are social entrepreneurs are working to transform their societies.
