Orange County Deputy Sheriffs overwhelming approved an election to form an agency shop/fair share shop. Under this designation, the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS) represents the Peace Officers and Supervisory Peace Officers. If a member does not want to join a the AOCDS, they can pay non-member objector fees which go towards the overhead associated with obtaining medical and pension benefits and negotiating pay and leave. It is illegal to make an employee join a union as a condition of working.
The voting results were:
Peace Officer Unit - 672 ballots received, 2 ballots rejected, 525 yes votes, 145 no votes
Supervisory Peace Officer Unit - 136 ballots received, 119 yes votes, 17 no votes
